Residents & Community
New Homeowner Janet Huff has a saying and the saying is “We Are Abundantly Blessed”, by this she means she and her husband of over 33 years and parents of 12 children decided it was time for her family to become Homeowners! The Huffs took homeownership pre purchase classes, readied their finances, and prepared to achieve the American Dream Homeownership. With preparation comes success a 12 year renter is now a homeowner, this family has a knocker on their door that proudly proclaims this is the home of the HUFFS, as well as they have replace their HVAC system so their home is more energy efficient. Families like Mr. and Mrs. Huff were renters and now they are homeowners and their family feels “Abundantly Blessed”.
In 1980 the Dominican Sisters, Rev McCracken, and members of the West End Community established Community Land CO-OP to assist families who were low to moderate income, in becoming homeowners. These families agreed to create a community resident council, live in there homes and make the West End a stable and viable place to live. Many of the loans were held by the CO-OP. Each family purchasing a home also paid to the CO-OP a land lease fee monthly. This non-profit has far exceeded what anyone had hope for. Residents have paid off mortgages and families continue to purchase home and make the West End home.
“A community needs a soul if it is to become a true home for human beings. You, the people must give it this soul.”
Pope John Paul II
